I don't understand all the history myself. If I understand correctly, and it is entirely possible that I don't, a guy calling himself Floof created anthro.foo, a smol cute altchan for SFW discussion of anthro characters. Discussions there have tended to run to comparisons of waifus, art, and suchlike things. A lot of the userbase, not all of them, but a lot of them, came from places like soyjak.party, and these were people who think soyjaks and soyjak board slang are funny, but also like anthro characters, which made them pariahs at the 'sharty and they were pretty much driven out by organized harassment.
Anyway. One of the people who volunteered to be a mod for Floof at the new place was a guy calling himself Lachlan, who is also kind of infamous at 4chan's /trash/ board and is considered by some to be a lolcow, which is to say, a crazy person who behaves amusingly when poked. Anyway, Lachlan decided that "SFW" meant "absolutely no sexualization ever, and calling a character attractive is sexualization." Lachlan went on a tear when Floof wasn't present, banning lots of people and deleting "oversexualized" art. Floof removed his mod privileges. Lachlan began calling out Floof, spamming and harassing, until Floof finally banned him. Lachlan swore to build his own 'foo board, but better, with blackjack and hookers. Averi.foo has what I perceive to be a small userbase of people who for whatever reason believe Lachlan was treated unfairly by the "gooners" at Anthro.foo and have declared jihad. They frequently attempt to raid Anfoo but there aren't really enough of them to accomplish very much more than mildly annoy the users. Any attempt go to Avfoo to make peace or explain that saying "this female character is pretty" is not exactly the same as posting loli guro diaper snuff inflation fetish porn gets you dogpiled and shrieked at ("GB2ur gooncave GOONER!") until you leave. It's neither fun nor friendly and I feel no desire to try again. As an outside observer my perception is that a sort of purity spiral took place in which these people who have coalesced around Lachlan are constantly competing with him and with one another to see who can denounce GOONING most vehemently. It is perplexing.
I freely admit that I don't understand all of it. I think I probably don't understand most of it. But it is clear to me that there's a lot of bad blood there. It's kind of a shame. Lachlan used to draw some cute art for fox waifu threads in /trash/ at 4chan. I don't know what happened.
I know that I made banners for anthro.foo and I posted a fair amount of art there. I was going to post more, but Floof's announcement makes me feel like it was all a waste, like it's all pointless.
Mind you, I don't think Floof owes us free entertainment or free hosting forever. He's got a life. In the announcement he talked about lacking time to take care of everything, and I fully understand that. No one is paying him to do this. It's not my place to make demands of him. I don't have the right. It wouldn't be proper. At the same time I'm disappointed. There was a story I was writing. There was art I was working on. Welp, not any more, lol. In all seriousness I feel kind of bad about the situation. And I feel bad that I feel bad, if that makes sense. On a certain level it seems kind of shallow and entitled to be depressed about this. I don't have any call on Floof or his time or money or resources. I shouldn't be so depressed about this.
